David Smith, 61, a Charlotte native and US Army veteran of the Vietnam War.  Employee of the U.S. Postal Service for the last 15 years, although for the last 12 months he has been on an unpaid absence, in order to take care of his health issues and to help while I had three separate surgeries on three separate areas of my body and required three separate stays in the V.A. hospital in Salisbury, NC.

Now that my health issues have been dealt with and corrected, David is in the process of being reinstated as a full-time, paid  employee of the USPS in Charlotte, NC.

Unfortunately, a year without a salary has taken a very deep financial toll on us and we are currently facing being forced to leave our home on May 8, 2013 because of the substantial, past due, unpaid mortgage.

David is set to meet with the USPS management and the union representative on Monday at the USPS facility in Charlotte, on May 6, 2013 to discuss the arrangements for reinstating him.  This is a formality to putting him back to work but, it must be done.

Also, David is scheduled to see his doctor in Charlotte, in order to cleared to be physically able to perform his work duties.

There are two barriers that must be overcome for David to be able to attend to these two appointments and get back to work.

1) We have no vehicle.  David had to sell his pick-up truck and car last August so that we would be able to pay the mortgage, at that time, as well as other bills.  We have been without a vehicle, of  any kind since then.  We live approximately 20-30 miles from where David needs to go for his appointments on Monday and needs transportation to do that.  WE ARE IN DIRE NEED OF THE USE OF A VEHICLE ON MONDAY, MAY 6, 2013, or MONEY TO RENT A VEHICLE or SOMEONE WILLING TO DRIVE HIM TO HIS APPOINTMENTS.  THIS IS CRITICAL TO BEING ABLE TO KEEP OUR HOME.

2) We have no money.  NONE.  The V.A. stopped sending Linda her NSC Improved Pension of $1,037.00 per month for the months of April, May, and June, due to an over-payment that was made for several months last year.  So, since March, there has been $0.00 coming into our home, other than a small loan that Linda was able to obtain (at exorbitant interest) and that was used to keep the phone and electric from being turned off and to buy some food for us and for our animals.

David currently has no health insurance, since he is on an unpaid employee status.  This means that he will have to pay for the doctor's visit out of his own pocket  which is empty.  If he can't pay for the doctor's visit, he can't get the doctor's approval for David to return to work.  This will stop us from being able to stay in our home and we'll be forced to leave here in 2 days.

WE URGENTLY NEED A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS TO BE SURE THERE IS ENOUGH TO PAY THE DOCTOR.  WITHOUT THIS HELP, WE WILL BE HOMELESS.  WE ARE ASKING FOR DONATIONS.  PLEASE, IF YOU CAN GIVE A DOLLAR (or more), CLICK ON THE "Donate" BUTTON LOCATED AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF EACH PAGE.  THAT WILL TAKE YOU DIRECTLY TO PAYPAL WHERE A $1.00 DONATION CAN BE MADE DIRECTLY TO DAVID'S PAYPAL ACCOUNT.  THIS IS A CRITICAL NEED.
